Analysis: Regular Online Websites Or Propaganda Medium

By: Iqbal S. Farah, London, U.K.

Do you think that propaganda news created and/or "delivered" by groups like WAPHA, RAWA, IRNA (Iranian News Agency), Feminist Majority Group and the Northern Alliance has influenced the United States government to take action towards the Afghan government. Or maybe, it gave the American government a "scapegoat" so that it can get the support of the individual ignorant American who doesn't have a clue about Afghanistan. The American government is basing its agenda on Afghanistan and its people by first using missiles and now using economic sanctions in order to put the misery of the people into an even worse situation. Is Osama bin Laden more important to American government than any other issue in Afghanistan like Human Rights and Women's rights. It obviously seem like the only reason United State's government raised the issue of Human rights was to get some support from the American public so that they can popularize their own agenda.

Websites like Azadi Radio and Afghanistan Online and other major mouthpieces of the Northern Alliance have shamefully being directly or indirectly supporting the sanctions. It is sad to see our own Afghans, trying to help foreign hands make other Afghans suffer. The sanctions are put in place for American government purposes that are little mentioned to us but we are all told something different from the real purpose. As we can see, the American government figures like Madeleine Albright, criticizes Afghan culture and the opposition groups think that she has the right to criticize. She said that "we don't have anything against the Afghan people...". Then why do they go ahead and put an economic sanctions on an economy that it is still bleeding from the wounds of the past 20 years of war and destruction.

The latest round of fighting shows how opportunistic the Northern Alliance are. They asked the UN to go ahead with the second round of Sanctions planned on Afghanistan. This would obviously affect the Afghan people and less of a matter, the Taliban. Their propaganda is more active than their troops. The internet and news press releases seems to be their favourites. They are constantly coming up with figures about how many refugees are on the move here and there. They are always mentioning only 'civilians' are being hurt while those 'civilians' are actually the alliance troops hiding in city houses. We must stop fighting and destroying each other. We are ALL of Afghans and we should make peace and not hatred with each other.

We have many choices, if we hate one side or the other in the Afghan war factions, we don't have to support the other in order to get anywhere. We can imagine if the Northern Alliance gets its hands on the capital city again. Just like last time, they will burn, loot, rape and kill people based on their ethnic background. The Taliban on the other hand are being annoying in with their policies which is revolving around Sharia. In order to run an effective state, we should separate the State from Religion. The Taliban are no better than the rest, we have to understand the whole story behind it. The Northern Alliance is together because they are under threat from Taliban, if they defeat the Taliban, they will be fighting each other again and the war will just prolong again. The Northern Alliance and neither are the Taliban good for the future of Afghanistan. We have to compromise and come to a peaceful solution instead of creating propaganda machines online in order to give a bad image of the Afghan people and society.

Are the reports that are coming out of Afghanistan and that are being reported by WAPHA and RAWA and Feminist Majority Group, biased and focused on the views of the founders of the groups instead of the general Afghan community voice and real truth? Are these groups just comprised of old communists who enjoyed the life of vodka and Russians being around in the city. Are they too narrow-minded to see the whole story or are they really trying to help the Afghan people and have no political biases ? Comments by influential and interested Jewish Congressmen and Senators in the American government are being given value and status, by the desperate and power hungry Northern Alliance strategists, who are trying to win every heart of the Western world.

The comments made by opposition figures like the so-called charge d'affairs of Afghanistan (Rabbani government) in London, Wali Masoud is very biased. A person like him who is living in London and has no clue but getting phone calls from opposition people about the situation about Afghanistan is not the right person to talk about Afghan people. He said that the sanctions will not affect the Afghan people......now that is an idiotic way of saying....lets allow the Americans to interfere in the affairs of Afghanistan because we (opposition) are on the verge of extinction. The Azadi Afghan radio comments saying that the good news is that..."Humanitarian supplies will continue and that that the sanctions cannot make the living situation in Afghanistan any more worse?" These kind of comment are just sad to hear from other Afghans. Those "analysts and experts" that Azadi Afghan Radio are producing their analysis from is obviously don't care about the Afghan people. They think that the Afghan people don't need to be any better off than what they are now, they want them to suffer more and be dependent on Western hand-outs.

Is the Taliban government doing the right thing in being a hard-neck on the Osama bin Laden issue. Should the Taliban focus so much attention and effort in trying to save just one "Islamic hero". Is the Taliban trying to censor the Afghan scene of war and culture in order to hide their evilness or do they need uninterrupted time to be able to bring the Afghan society back in order from the chaos that the Mujahideen and the communist government's left behind. Is the Taliban government another chaotic force like the 1992-1996 regime of the Masoud/Rabbani government, or is it any different?

THESE SANCTIONS ARE TAKING ITS TOLL ON THE AFGHAN PEOPLE AND NOT THE TALIBAN GOVERNMENT. WITH THE HUMANITARIAN HELP CONTINUING, IT DOESN'T HELP MAKE THE NEEDY PEOPLE OF AFGHANISTAN MORE INDEPENDENT BUT IT IS ACTUALLY CREATING DEPENDENCY OF NEEDY AFGHAN PEOPLE ON WESTERN HAND-OUTS. THE COUNTRY NEEDS TO GROW AND BECOME A WORLD CLASS COUNTRY. UNFORTUNATELY, AFGHANS THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF PERSONAL MISSIONS ARE NOT JOINING IN HANDS TOGETHER WITH OTHER AFGHANS IN ORDER TO REBUILD THE COUNTRY. THE SANCTIONS HAVE HOLD OFF MANY PROJECTS THAT WOULD HELP THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMY TO GROW AGAIN: TELECOMMUNICATIONS, INFRASTRUCTURE, GAS PIPELINE, ELECTRICITY LINES, GAS AND COPPER MINES AND MUCH MORE........HELP RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE TRUE SITUATION IN AFGHANISTAN.

Which group can be associated more with the Communist puppet government of Afghanistan during the 1980s.
